TRAINING
In the music room, note
the tapestry above and left of the entrance. This appears to be one of the six
“Lady and the Unicorn” tapestries, possibly “The Sense of
Taste”. Are the other “paintings” from familiar works? They appear
multiple times, and at the end of the room with the stereo speakers, the
paintings seem to be upside down!
THE RACETRACK: Easy entry is found at
the corner of the swimming pool building next to the hedge. Stand at the corner
with Lara's back to the outer wall. Perform the corner bug while holding
Action. Lara will jump off the roof when the bug works, turning to face the
racetrack hedge, and catch its top edge. Pull up and drop in where you will.
OVERGROWN COURTYARD: Looking toward the door to the quicksand, the arch bug works at both corners. If the inside of Lara’s heel is lined up slightly over the
line, flicker motion is possible from either side of the doorway. The foot
placement in the picture is correct. The right edge of the door leads to a lot
of unknown territory and a major shortcut.
NOTE: Stiletto shows
Lara getting on top of the Ganesha wall (behind Lara) via the crawl-corner bug,
so it’s likely he’s known about the high area. The Expert’s
Challenge on Theresa’s site has several other ways to this high area, but
it seems only the one near the end of the level still works.
After crossing the mudslide, note the two columns flanking the
waterfall. Pull up to the right of either column, then turn left and use the
corner bug. Where else can you get to?
ROOM WITH GATE & TWO KEYHOLES: When
approaching SECRET #1, first pull the block. Then when you push it, the
camera position moves to the other side of the block, then inside it
where it's invisible. See Lara straining away at nothing!
LEDGE JUMPING ALONG THE RIVER - SECRET #1: Walk toward the large opening where Lara entered the level in the
cut scene. Save your game because it's easy to get stuck or die after the bug
works. On the left side (looking back into the opening), even
with the cliff face, an odd variant of the corner bug leaves Lara on top of the
cliff.
ALONG THE RIVER (left at the fork): Stella suggests leaving
the quad bike after the jump to the rocky canyon. But driving over the
edge on the left (and most other places) causes no damage. Then you can drive
through the
BUILDING WITH TWO FLOORS & FIRE-BREATHING STATUE: To avoid the last four monkeys, leave the SECOND GATE KEY and
other goodies for a moment. Drop through the floor (avoiding the fire from the
statue) and enter the next room, killing monkeys as necessary. Push the button
in the alcove to open the two gates; the four monkeys will not appear unless
you step into the exit doorway. Ascend to the second floor by standing at the
edge of the platform with the fire-breathing statue and catching the far edge
of the ceiling hole with a standing jump. Now get the
KEY and goodies, and exit by the open second-floor door. Safety-drop from the
outside ledge and continue. When you finally jump the quad bike over the quicksand,
drive into the building. The monkeys will appear, and you can turn them into
road kill (mean, but they’ll chew on Lara if they get a chance).
ROCKY
SLOPE: You
can kill the two vultures with the quad bike. Climb toward SECRET #4 until they
appear. Quickly hop down to the quad bike, mount it and drive around until they
run into you, which kills them instantly. Lara can
even just sit there on the bike; they will attempt to claw her, which causes no
damage, and then they will run into the motionless bike and die.
WATERFALL: At the gap half way down the ledge, the corner bug works, with
flicker motion. But the three vultures will knock Lara into the pool while
she’s turning into alignment. So take them out: jump the gap, which
triggers their appearance. This would also be a good time to use the Quad Bike
of Death on them – run back to it, get on, and just sit there until they
die at its touch. Then return to the corner and evoke flicker motion. The foot
alignment shown is correct. Things get complex, but Lara can get unstuck after
she stops.
Walk-through: At the end of the last
ledge, instead of jumping across to the slope and sliding back, go to the
square where you just found the large med-pack. Stand at the vertical face at
the end, by the left edge, next to the triangle at the left. Use the corner
bug. This leads to several odd views and occurrences.
POOL WITH WATERFALLS: At
the exit of the tunnel to the ledge above the pool, evoke flicker motion at the
left side of the ladder. The foot position shown works well. This leads to a
substantial shortcut.
After getting the
shotgun shells on the ledge near the water, there's a moderate shortcut.
Instead of hopping up to the higher ledge, use the corner bug where the slope
meets the flat ledge, at the corner next to the higher ledge.
WATER WHEEL AREA: After following the
sluiceway and killing the two vultures, the corner of high rock where the
waterway turns right allows the corner bug from both sides. Align Lara’s
foot completely over the line, as shown. This bug site allows plenty of
discoveries.
The Expert’s Challenge on Theresa’s site describes the
details.
OUTSIDE THE HIGH-SECURITY COMPOUND: Slide down the tunnel to
the ramp where Lara can jump the quad bike over a fence to end the level. At
the corner beyond the two snakes, to the left, use the right face to produce
flicker motion. Note how her foot is slightly over the line. After further
adventures, Lara finds a big shortcut.
In the cut scene at the
end of the level, note the strange remark from one of the guards.
SOUTH PACIFIC PART 1: COASTAL
VILLAGE
WOODEN BRIDGE: A standing jump to the
right from the beginning of the bridge reveals a climbable wall below the first
ledge. Lara can descend to a flat ledge, then drop to the ground or jump to a
slope across the small valley and drop from the edge, both without damage.
INTO THE CAVES (Serpent
Stones): After
killing the second native, in the trees near the temple, backtrack as Stella
suggests. Pull up onto the two green-topped stones. Pull up onto the tree limb,
then onto more green-topped rocks opposite the tree. Move right until Lara is
below a half-square triangle in the inside corner of two high rock faces. Take
a standing jump up to the lowest corner of the triangle. "Sneak up"
on the right corner: walk as far as you can, then turn a little too much (from
45 degrees) toward the rock face, and start jumping vertically. In a few jumps,
Lara will move closer to the tip of the triangle, and you can begin angling for
the corner bug in earnest. It works in a very odd way (use Look).
THE VILLAGE: Not a bug: There's a way to move
from the lower village to the upper village! From the lower village, go to the
left end of the slope to the upper village. To start, find the triangle in the
slope that sends Lara toward the hut when she jumps off the triangle.
In the canyon leading
out of the village, the corner at the right turn allows flicker motion and
more. The foot placement shown works well, with about an inch
of space between the line and the inside of the foot.
After you pass over the
spike pit to the other half of THE VILLAGE, try this: go to the right of the
tree house, and pull up to the next level of huts. Walk a couple of squares to
the right, then jump and catch the roof of the passage that has spikes on top.
Figure out what to do from there.
SOUTH PACIFIC PART 2: CRASH SITE
Walk-through: After exiting
the quicksand, go to the tree on the left. Use the corner bug on the left corner of the
face near the quicksand. Explore.
SOUTH PACIFIC PART 3: MADUBU
GORGE
SECRET IN THE
THATCHED HUT: After going straight out of the hut, there’s a
vertical wall to the left of the last step down. When facing the wall, flicker
motion works at the left side of the wall, next to the higher step. The foot
alignment in the picture works well; the heel just touches the line. This is
where I discovered flicker motion and is perhaps the most impressive example of
it.
SOUTH PACIFIC PART 4:
It’s possible to
run behind the second boulder using the breakaway tiles. Then you can use the
corner bug at the right-side support where the giant boulder used to be.
There’s a strange visual effect.
ALLEYS AND BUILDINGS
NEAR THE START OF THE LEVEL: Just before SECRET #3: After killing the
gunman and taking the right turn onto the higher ledge, use the corner bug on
the right side at the far corner of the square at the top. In the picture, the
corner is next to Lara’s right arm. An extensive rooftop romp ensues.
Instead of entering the break in the
railing to end the level, go to the right corner of the opening into the
cathedral next to the break. Perform an arch bug outside the opening or a normal
corner bug inside the opening (Lara bugs through the ceiling).
Explore.
The corner bug works at the corner
of the extension from the smaller dome that Lara passes on the way to the ridge
that leads to the cathedral. This allows access to multiple roofs.
Much of
the above for
EGYPTIAN AREA OFFICE & EXHIBIT: For a too-quick exit, use the corner
bug on the left side of the entrance door.
Doing it the hard way: as soon as
you pull up to the first platform, jump across and climb the same
side as Sophia.
Walk-through:
In the passage before the JUNCTION, the white-suited guy has amusing interactions
with Lara as she tests the corners for bugs.
At the low-level track exit from the
JUNCTION, produce flicker motion on the right face of the left corner.
ANTARCTICA PART 3: LOST CITY OF

ROOM WITH SWINGING BURNERS IN THE
DOORWAY: At
the far end of the bridge is an opening. Use the inside left corner to start
flicker motion.
ROOM WITH FOUR GATES:
The column in the far right corner (from the entrance) lets Lara skip the last
two enemies in the room.
ROOM WITH HINGED LEDGES: The
corner to the left of the pool (behind the statue) allows a bug that produces a
curious result.
BONUS LEVEL: ALL HALLOWS
Walk-through: At
the free-standing column, one corner allows a shortcut.
DROPPING THROUGH THE DOME INTO THE
CATHEDRAL: Some of
the eight corners inside the golden columns on the crypt’s black platform
have an amusing corner bug action.
